It has been a long time. Longer than I thought.
My name is Sam. I live in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
I was in high school when my girlfriend suggested that I listen to her favourite band. She gave me a burnt CD with a mix of their songs and the first track was Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings). I’ll never forget how that song made me feel. The language reached out and pulled me in like an old friend. Something I’d been searching for but could never quite find.
That’s where my rabbit-hole began, so to speak. I’d joined the DF within months and found myself wrapped in Sing The Sorrow and its mysteries. DecemberUnderground dropped on my birthday a year later and I was hooked for life. My music taste has ebbed and flowed as I’ve grown older but AFI has always been a constant.
I’ve made lifelong friends through the Despair Faction, and it’s cool to see something I loved so much still thriving more than 15 years later. Like sliding into an old jacket and finding it still fits just as well as it used to.
Can’t wait to meet you all.
